Welcome
On behalf of the National NRM Regions Chairs’ Working Group, the NT NRM Board would like to invite people involved in natural resource management to attend the third National NRM Knowledge Conference. “Connecting across people and place” will be held in Darwin from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 April 2010.
The conference is for those with a direct interest in natural resource management, including program managers from Australia’s 56 regional Natural Resource Management bodies, community and non-government organisations, and State and Australian Government officers. Made possible by the financial support of the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country program, the conference will provide a forum for NRM practitioners to share information about their work, their successes and the lessons they have learnt.
Successful natural resource management requires integrated planning and coordinated delivery across landscapes. This relies upon engaging land managers and communities in both the planning and delivery, and building partnerships across diverse organisations. The conference theme sets the challenge – “connecting across people and place”.
The Conference will explore how we do this – through community engagement, partnerships, making NRM good business, and measuring progress – in the context of climate change, managing land use, cultural heritage, and improving biodiversity off-reserve. It is an opportunity to share and learn from our achievements and lessons.
The conference will create a range of events for you to connect with others and learn.
A “Knowledge fair” provides the opportunity for NRM participants from across Australia to share their work through stalls and exhibits. With 2010 being the International Year of Biodiversity we will be focusing particularly on biodiversity related work.
While we have you in Darwin we will also be hosting a Northern Showcase to give you an opportunity to see, taste, hear, touch and learn about the unique products of the NT and Australia’s north.
The Knowledge Conference is held during the same week as the national NRM Chairs’ Forum where Chairs from Australia’s 56 regional NRM bodies will gather in Darwin to consider, along with other matters, issues to bring to the attention of the NRM Ministerial Council. This provides an opportunity for the Conference outcomes to be presented to the Ministerial Council.
We look forward to seeing you in Darwin in April.
